Global Institute for Food Security

The Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) is a unique public-private partnership that enables innovative, multidisciplinary research, training, and technology development to improve sustainable crop production, enhance human and environmental nutrition, and address the growing global demand for safe and reliable food.

I currently serve as Senior Research Chair in GIFS with a research focus on the social dimensions of food security. As a cultural anthropologist my research is exploring the complex relationship between culture, economy, and the maintenance of local food systems.

Current Projects Include:

- Decline and Response in the Use of Non-Timber Forest Products by Tribal Peoples of Khanda Sharol in Rajastan, India.

- Assessing the Socio-Ecological Resilience of the Indigenous Agricultural Heritage System of Chiloe, Chile.

- Livelihoods and Food Security in Northern Benin.

- The Agriculture-Energy Interface in the Northern Great Plains - Finding Sustainable Solutions
